Sometimes the weather just doesn’t play nicely when it comes to outdoor activities and you may need to introduce ‘tactical faff’ or go and do something else instead. I’ve taken some time out to visit some of the local climbing walls to find out what they can offer on such occasions. I hope you find this information useful and that you have great fun climbing.

Shrewsbury Sports Village

Location: Sundorne Road, Shrewsbury, SY1 4RQ
I have grown to like this venue because I can get there in 10 minutes from my house and there are quite a lot routes that I can lead (i.e not too overhanging) and they have one or two cheeky top roped routes that require a bit of thought.
The main climbing area consists of 11 climbing panels with three routes on each panel and the grades range from 4a to 6a. There are two small bouldering walls with a number of routes to warm up on. For younger or novice climbers there is an upper gallery which has a number of shorter ropes to learn the fundamental skills.

I am a cub scout leader. We are teaching how to tie knots to cubs and scouts.
The best type of rope is an old climbing rope which is frayed and not safe for climbing any more.
Please can you tell me if you have any old ropes that I can have, or buy at low cost? We are going to do the new “Pioneering Activity” badge at our Brown Clee Camp on the weekend of 19th-21st June?
Many thanks,
Akela Alice Pritchard
Alice,
I do have some rope old climbing rope you can have. Just wondering what the best way to get it to you would be.
