On the weekend, I was observing a Single Pitch Award Training Session run by Paul Poole Mountaineering and a mighty fine course it was too.
The course started with some very wet weather so it was off to Beacon to look at personal climbing skills and group management in the indoor environment. Thankfully, by this time the rain had almost stopped so we made a dash to Lion Rock to look at gear placement, setting up bottom rope systems, personal safety and group management in the outdoor environment.
It was a long day and I came away with some great teaching tips (IDEAS for anchors) and lots of confirmation that my current climbing practice was still current.
A sunny day at the Upper Tier of Tremadog looking at top rope set ups, group abseils, personal abseiling and lead climbing. It was another long day and it was really lovely to see the candidates using and applying the skills from day 1 and then building on them.
I came away with a few more hints and tips to use in my own personal climbing and I would like to wish the candidates all the best as they prepare for their assessments next year.
