Out & About With CHMAS at Half Term

Despite it being half term its been quite a hectic week here at CHMAS. We’ve almost caught up on the admin and other routine tasks and by the end of February we should have everything in hand. On the activity side of things, we have:

  • recced a new route for a DofE expedition;
  • ridden a few local trails on the mountain bike;
  • visited Knotlow Cavern for a bit of underground action;
  • run a session at the Adventure Ropes Course; and
  • provided first aid instruction for a Bronze DofE Expedition.

To find out more then please read on.

DofE Recce
I met up with my good friend Celia for a bit of a leg stretch on the Longmynd to recce a new DofE route. We met up in Cardingmill Valley (alas the Café was closed) where our route was to start and finish. We had some cracking views making our way to the Long Mynd Adventure Camp where the group would be camping for the night. From the camp , we then walked up Minton Batch before passing Pole Bank and then dropping down into Cardingmill. The two day expedition route completed in just over 6 hours. The day was finished off with a Cream Tea in the café a fitting end to a lovely day.

Knotlow Cavern
A lovely trip to Knotlow Cavern for a spot of SRT practice with Al and Dave. It tuned out to be a three pitch to get to Waterfall Chamber which has some fantastic pick marks and other hand working clearly visible. The descent was straight forward enough but the ascent proved to be quite strenuous ( a timely reminder that I need to loose more weight).

A cracking day out although I have to admit, I was aching like an old man for quite a few days after. To seek a few pictures from the trip, please click here.

Birthday Party At The Adventure Rope Course
A cracking afternoon working for my friends at the Adventure Rope Course running a birthday party for a very excited group of 10 year olds. the girls were a little nervous to start off with but were soon laughing and smiling as they took their turn in the giant swing. They also got stuck into the Leap of Faith, Adventure Tunnels and parafan.

First Aid Training
On Saturday, I was working for my friends at Rich Adventure providing first aid training for a Bronze DofE expedition. It turned out to be a lovely day and I look forward to working with the teams later in the year.
