CHMAS is an approved Provider for the Mountain Training Expedition Skills Module. We intend to run these courses in 2019 so when we had a chance to observe one of Bigfoot Services courses we couldn’t resist. It would provide excellent CPD and a chance for CHMAS to benchmark our course with an another Provider.
Day 1 – The Journey Begins
The route took us across the Black Mountain on wat felt like the coldest weekend of the year! After a brief chat, we weaved our way across the Black Mountain in search of a suitable campsite. We found an absolute cracker. With the tents erected in record time we were soon able shelter from the wind and warm up a little. Even with the addition of a few extra layers, it was still cold preparing the evening meals. They were quickly devoured and lifted the spirits which resulted in lots of tales and banter about all things mountaineering. Eventually, with the drop in temperature we all retired to the tents glad to be in our warm sleeping bags.
Day 2 – The Journey Continues
The next day we were blessed with blue skies but there was still a chill in the air! Breakfast was a social affair but that didn’t stop a little bit of rivalry about who would be first ready for off. We continued traversing the Black Mountain and headed for the Canadian Bomber crash site on Carreg Goch. We paused for lunch and then headed for the summit. As we reached the summit, it dawned on us that just 200 foot was the difference between life & death! From the summit we headed across country to our final destination at the Visitor Centre at Craig Y -Nos. At the Visitor Centre the nice Mr Alan purchased tea and cake for everyone and is a tradition I will be using for my courses. I’m pleased to say all the candidates passed and coped with some very cold conditions.
