I was asked by my friends at ProAdventure to run a BCU three star kayak proficiency award training and assessment course, which are always great courses to be involved in.
This was spent on the Llangollen Canal and the River Dee (Mile End Mill site) to ensure the fundamental skills were suitably honed and over the course of the day we looked at:
- Forwards paddling;
- Moving sideways (static & on the move);
- Support strokes (low, high & sculling);
- Rescues (eskimo & deep water);
- Ferry gliding; and
- Breaking in / out of the current.
This was a river trip and on the Dee from Glyndyfrdwy to the Mile End Mill Site, which has to be one of the most pleasant paddles in the area. Along the way we refined the ferry gliding and breaking in / out of the current and looked at river running strategies. A great day out with an exceptional bunch of paddlers.
