Instructing For Arthog Outreach

Tackling the climb in good style

Working for Arthog Outreach is always fun and this week was no different. The sessions this week included Bushcraft, Canoeing & Climbing with a diverse client group.

Activity Day at Grinshill
This was a split bushcraft / climbing day at Grinshill and the young people involved really got stuck into the activities with the fire lighting to make hot chocolate being a firm favourite. Almost all enjoyed the climbing and it was great to see this group take responsibility for the safety of the climber.

Canoeing at Simpsons Pool
A rather cold but enjoyable day on the water with quite a nervous Year 5 group. We played lots of games to build confidence and then had lots of races involving forward & backward paddling, stand up paddling, spinning on the spot to keep warm. The group really liked experimenting with the ‘Magic Paddle Retrieval’ and there was much use of the ‘Wingardium Leviosa Spell’ to make sure this worked.

Climbing at Grinshill
This was the second activity for this Year 5 Group and they really took to climbing with everyone reaching new heights as they pushed their limits (by choice) to reach the top of the climbs. Despite it being the second week, it’s encouraging to see how much the group have gained confidence and are taking more responsibility for kitting up in stores.

Another lovely week and I’m quite looking forward to the next week too.
