Hafod Team Training

The hostel with Tryfan in the background

My first introduction to the outdoors was through the Scout Association and I owe a great debt to all those who encouraged / guided me towards participating in outdoor activities. In order to repay this debt, I am a member of the Welsh Scout Council ‘Yr Hafod Training Team’ which through its hostel in the Ogwen Valley in North Wales, provides hillwalking, mountaineering, first aid and rock climbing courses. If you are interested in finding out more about these courses or hiring the hostel then please click here.

As part of our ongoing training we have an exclusive staff training event which allows us to get together, update our knowledge and socialise as a group. This years training events included amongst other things:

  • An introduction to the geology, flora,  fauna and management of Cwm Idwal by Rhys Evans who is a national park warden; and
  • A workshop on remote supervision by Steve Long ofthe UKMLTB.

Both of these sessions raised more questions than they answered and will be the subject of discussion for some months to come as we each reflect on our experience and approach to these issues.
