Foundation Safety & Rescue Training Course – Shrewsbury Canoe Club

Self rescues in progress

Last weekend, I was providing a Foundation Safety & Rescue Training (FSRT) course for Shrewsbury Canoe Club. The FSRT course is  a hands on practical course that teaches folk how to undertake rescues in flat water environment and is a pre requirement for anyone wishing to become a Level 1 Paddle sport Coach.

We meet in glorious sunshine and over the course of the day we looked at risk assessments, personal safety (equipment & boats),  rescue protocols (STVK, SRTRG and CLAP), bank based rescues, towing and boat based rescues (canoe & kayak). Unfortunately, the weather took a turn for worse after lunch for the boat based rescues and I was really impressed by evertone’s commitment as they got on with the wet element during the hail and rain showers.

I’m pleased to say that everyone successfully completed the course and I would like to wish them every success in their paddling careers wherever that may take them.

If you would like this type of course for your club or group of friends then please take a look at out main site to find out more by clicking here.
