DofE Silver Expedition Practice

DofE Teams – meeting up for lunch on the slopes of Moel Sych

In April, Chris was Course Leading a DofE Silver Training Expedition for Rich Adventure in the Berwyns. The young people were super enthusiastic and took everything in their stride

Day 1
This has to be one of the wettest days I have worked for a very long while. Our route for the day took us from Llangynog to the Campsite at Pistyll Rhaeadr. Despite the wet weather, the group navigated, made camp and cooked their meal in record time. A top effort by everyone involved.

Day 2
With much drier and warmer weather a trip over the Berwyns was on the cards. The walk in was steep in places but the view on summitting Moel Sych and Cadair Berwyn were spectacular! We descended from the summit in good spirits and eventually arrived at the overnight camp at Hendwr.

Day 3
The sunshine continued for the final day as we made our way over Corwen via Cynwyd and the North Berwen Way. By this stage, the group were operating very independently and I was able to take a back seat and just ask the occasional question. Ice creams all round at Corwen to celebrate their success. Well it would be rude no to.

As an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) for DofE Expedition Section, CHMAS is able to facilitate your complete Expedition. If you prefer we can also provide supervisory or assessing staff to give you a little helping hand. To find out more please take a look at our DofE Pages.
