During the October Half Term, CHMAS was providing assessor services for a Gold DofE Canoe Expedition on the River Wye. The teams were paddling from Hay-On-Wye to Monmouth a distance of some 124 kilometres or 78 miles.
I could see from the start that all the groups had received high quality training and it was great to see them using these skills. I was particularly impressed by the teamwork displayed both on and off the water and they just seemed to get quicker and quicker doing the everyday expedition tasks
Probably the highlight of the trip was running the Symonds Yat Rapids, which all teams ran with ease, paying due regard to the safe passage of their team members.
I’m pleased to say that all the teams successfully completed their qualifying expedition and I look forward to see them presenting their aim in the coming months. Well done to all involved.
