Here at CHMAS we run quite a few first aid courses. To ensure our training is up to date Chris attended a FREC3 Conversion course.Which is a specialist pre-hospital emergency care course. Simon Greenfield of Red2Medical delivered the course. This resulted in an extremely action packed an informative course. The core course content is summarised below.
Day 1 – Casualty Assessment
This was a real eye opener for me and was a step up from the normal casualty assessment that we provide as first aiders. The level of detail involved with assessing the vital signs, was highly informative and a real eye opener. This allows us to establish if the casualty is little sick or big sick and when to get further assistance. This was all pulled together in the form of a mock scenario at the end of the day.
Day 2 – Dealing With Trauma Patients
Just when you thought you had things sorted, things became a little more complicated with the additional complications of dealing with trauma patients. Blood on the floor plus four more, is heading whizzing around in my head. Once again, this was all pulled together in the form of mock scenario at the end of the day.
Day 3 – Medical Conditions
Wow! This session was a real eye opener and a great insight as to how the professionals work with some very common ailments of injuries. Where appropriate, I have included this information in my own first aid courses.
For me, the FREC 3 Course ticked all the boxes, I had for the course. It has also added a few new tools to the toolbox and plugged a few gaps in my knowledge. Simon’s unique delivery style, up to date knowledge and experience as a frontline paramedic of over 2o years really made this course superb.
If you are considering a FREC 3 Course, then I can highly recommend one from Red2Medical.
