CHMAS – Lowland Leader Training

Our venue for Day 2 – just after the snow storm

As an approved Course Provider for the Lowland Leader Scheme, Chris was out and about delivering a training course in March. There were 4 exceptional candidates on the course who took everything in their stride.

Day 1 – Personal Skills
This was all about the personal skills of the award using the beautiful Shropshire countryside. We even managed to stop for a quick brew at the Haughmond Hill Café, which was a great treat. The day concluded with a quick look at DLog and preparing a route card for the next day.

Day 2 – Group Management Skills
Our venue for the day was the wonderful Church Stretton Hills and two extremes of weather (glorious sunshine and a snow storm). This day was all about group management and being an effective walk leader. We looked at how to deal with an incapacitated group member and how to get help. Interwoven throughout the day was environmental knowledge and I was entertained by the candidate’s hill talks.

The day ended with a review and debrief at the Cardingmill Valley Café and individual action plans.
