Earlier in August, Chris Hughes Multi Activity Services joined forces with Tynant Outdoors to provide a canoeing session on the Llangollen Canal for the Shropshire Youth Service.
This trip started with a journey on a steam train from Llangollen to Carrog and return to the Berwyn Station where we met up with the group for their canoe journey on the Llangollen Canal. A great way to learn about the importance of the railway and canal systems in days gone by.
From the Berwyn Station, we made the short walk to the head of the canal where the group had lunch and got kitted up for their canoe expedition. After quick safety brief and it was time to put on the water and introduce a few fundamental skills such as turning and forwards paddling. Some got to grips with these skills quite easily while others needed a little extra input but we were soon making very good progress. Along the way we took a little time to talk about the history of the canal and sample some of the very large delicious blackberries that grow on the far side of the canal which were enjoyed by all.
We ended the session with a few balance games, which despite our best efforts no one managed to get wet and good time was had by all.
