On Monday, I was providing a series of canoe taster sessions for my friends at the Great Escape Company for a Year 6 group who were on an activity camp. The main aim of the session was for the teams to have a whole load of fun while ‘messing about in canoes.’
After the safety briefing, it was soon time to put on the water and introduce the basic skills of forwards, backwards and turning and then incorporate these skills into a series of games (I like to call this stealth learning) to get lots of practice and have lots of fun. A particular favourite today, was the duck challenge, in which the paddling teams race against each other to see how many of the ducks they can pick up.
I had a great time on the water and judging from the feedback from the young people so did they although next time, I must remember to put on the sun cream!!
If you would like CHMAS to provide this type of activity for you and your group then please take a look at our youth programme page on our main website by clicking here. We look forward to hearing from you.
