At the beginning of last week CHMAS was running a Bronze DofE Practice expedition on the Long Mynd. There route started and finished from Cardingmill Valley with an overnight camp at the Longmynd Adventure Camp.
The first day was accompanied to make sure the fundamental navigation skills had been retained and from the feedback received from the participants they found this day very useful as it built on the skills from their training. I was particularly pleased to see all three teams cooking as a group and how quickly they had the tents up. Despite the low overnight temperature, all the teams were in good spirits the following morning and the all teams left the campsite by 08:45.
The second day as unaccompanied and included a few emergency scenarios as the team walked their route and from the feedback received they really enjoyed walking on their own and navigational challenges that presented. All groups arrived at the final destination on time, a little tired but buzzing from their achievements. I’m really looking forward to working with this group later in the year for their Qualifying Expedition.
