Canoeing – Guided Trip on the Afon Banwy

Ruuning the first grade 2 rapid

On Sunday, I was running a canoe trip on Afon Banwy for some returning clients who wanted to develop their river leadership and white water skills. It would of been nice to have a little bit more water but the day was still a great success.

After checking the water levels we decided to run the lower section which starts from Llanfair CaereinionĀ and finishes at Meifod a distance of some 14 kilometres with few rapids at around grade 2 to test your skill.

Along the way we looked at river leadership based on ‘CLAP and RAG’ and various strategies for running the rapids safely. We also looked at breaking in / out of the current and ferry gliding based on the principles of ‘SALE SET’. At first, the crew (understandably) were a little nervous but by the end of the day they were soon running the rapids with ease and were grinning from ear to ear with their achievements. A great day to be on the water in excellent company and I look forward to our next white water day.
