Last week, I was introducing a group of Year 5 to canoeing for my good friends at Arthog Outreach. It always fun working with this age group and today was no exception. After unloading the boats we were soon on the water and after a few games to get to get used to the boat it was time to introduce a few fundamental skills such as turning and stopping before stopping for lunch.
After lunch we played a few more games and races (compass, tig, stand up paddling) and I finished off with a story about the origins of the canoe and how the native Americans used to scare away the thunder before they went out hunting!
A nice day on the water with a great bunch of young people.
