Canoeing – Arthog Outreach (Week 6)

The race is on

This is the sixth and final week (Mondays & Tuesdays only) of a 6 week programme to provide a canoeing activity for the classes of Year 3 and Year 4 as they are looking at water based transportation this term.

Our venue for this project is the Shropshire Union Canal or ‘Shroppie’  to its friends near Newport, which is quite popular for narrow boat enthusiasts. Much of the session is about teamwork and learning to work together to make tasks successful. and the groups have unloaded and loaded the canoes, assisted with rafting them up and played an active part in paddling the canoes along the canal.

This weeks group were a great bunch to work with who really enjoyed being on the water, learning about the canal and playing games. As they were quite a competitive bunch this week we had a quite a few races both sitting down and standing up which was enjoyed by all.

Its been a great programme to work on and I’ve really enjoyed working with this age group and I’m almost sad it’s over.
