On Saturday, I was working with a local school on a Bronze DofE practice expedition and a great day it was too. After the initial kit checks we were soon off the Llangollen to start the walk. As I had not worked with this group previously, I opted to walk with them for a while adding to the training they had already received so they became more confident and hence efficient in navigating around the hills.
I left the team to their own devices to navigate from Rhewl to the Britannia Inn and the Tower Campsite (via Tan-y-fron). At first the group were a little nervous but the smiles on their faces when I met them in the car park of the Britannia Inn and at the campsite said it all. At quick they quickly established camp and cooked their evening meal before playing an impromptu game of rounders.
The next morning, I set them off to walk along the Llangollen Canal to walk to the railway station at Chirk where they would be supervised by others along the way.
I had a nice day in glorious sunshine working with a really well motivated group and I hope they have a fantastic time on their qualifying expedition later in the year.
