Base Camp at Crickhowell

Last week, I spent three great days working for Class Adventure as a Team Leader on their base camp programme, which is run from from the beautiful Glanusk Estate in Crickhowell. Unfortunately, there are no photographs as I’ve now manged to lose the back up camera and the new ones not arrived yet!

Day 1
After a general introduction to the site, a recap on the operating arrangements for the climbing wall / abseil tower it was soon time to meet the group over a spot of lunch. My first activity in the afternoon, was to take the group for a kayaking session on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. This was enjoyed by all and had a mixture of kayaking skills and games to keep all amused. In the evening, the whole group was brought together for a wide range of team challenges and huge game of dodge ball.

Day 2
The morning was spent on the abseil / climbing tower and everyone met their own personal challenges and took an active role. The afternoon was spent trekking to a remote campsite where the group pitched tents and cooked their evening meal. Some found the trek challenging but all enjoyed the experience and they particularly liked cooking the evening meal.

Day 3
With the group departing at midday the morning was spent on team challenges which proved to be a great success

I had a great three days and upon reflection I think I learnt as much from my experience as the group and I look forward to working on a five day programme in July.
