Week 3 at Arthog is likely to be one of the best weeks as it involves caving (a new activity for me), climbing and bushcraft (just who doesn’t like messing about in the woods).
Caving at Llanymynech
Before anyone asks no I’m not a cave leader but I am going through the centre’s accreditation process to be able to lead this cave and as such I was acting as assistant to one of the senior instructors (Martin). The cave at Llanymynech is a popular venue for groups but on this day we were the only group there. For me it was great squeezing through narrow passages, crawling (I must remember knee pads next time) and the buzz amongst the group about the caving experience.
All Day Bushcraft Session
A great day working with Year 4/5 teaching them rudimentary bushcraft skills (shelter building & fire lighting). A great day was had by all.
Same group as last week and they are so keen to learn its unbelievable.
Bushcraft Sessions (1/2 day)
Working in the centre grounds with Years 1 and 2 (mt first real experience with this age group). What an extremely tiring by enjoyable session making shelters and a hot drink before repeating the exercise again in the afternoon.
Next week, I’m working with the Year 1 and 2 groups on bushcraft sessions and other general administrative tasks around the centre.
