Arthog Outreach – Week 2

On the low ropes course

I really enjoyed my first week at Arthog and working with a younger age group than I normally work with has been very rewarding and I’m really enjoying it. This week, I’m scheduled  to lead groups on the following activities:

  • Climbing at Grinshill;
  • National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS);
  • Canoeing at Simpsons Pool; and
  • Onsite Team Challenge.

Climbing at Grinshill
This proved to be a great session with all the group taking part in the belaying and/or climbing elements of the activity.

NICAS Climbing Session
This was to be first in a series of the sessions to run through the syllabus for the NICAS Level 1 – Foundation Climber. This was a thoroughly enjoyable first session with a group of very motivated young people. If you would like to find out more about the NICAS scheme then please click here.

Canoeing at Simpsons Pool
The highlight of the session was young one lad who told me that the ‘canoeing was the best day ever’. A fantastic way to end a great week.

Onsite Team Challenge
This session was based indoors in the morning and then the afternoon was spent on the low ropes course.

Next week I’m off caving, climbing and playing in the woods (otherwise known as bushcraft).
