Climbing at Grinshill – peer group belaying

My week at Arthog this week has been spent climbing at Grinshill with various year groups and I have to confess it was a great three days filled with much wonder and amusement. Perhaps the highlight of the three days was a Year 3 telling me that they didn’t want to go home as this was the best day ever!

I’m always humbled when this happens and it makes me think how lucky I was as a child growing up near a woodland, ponds and quarries where this type of activity was common place (not always without incident) as we scampered up the various rock faces creating our own challenges and evaluating the risks for ourselves. I think it was this sense of freedom that fed my love of the outdoors.

Anyway back to the activities! All the children had a good time with all of them completing their personal challenges whether that be to get to the top or the ledge halfway up. As well as this, I’m keen to work on their communication skills, team working and personal responsibility by active engagement in the activity, which all the groups really like. At least that’s what they tell me.

If you would like this type of activity for you and group then please take a look at our main site to find out more by clicking here. We look forward to hearing from you.
