Activity Instruction at Arthog Outreach

Last week, I was working for my good friends at Arthog Outreach and a jolly good week it was too. I was involved with provision of bushcraft, canoeing, hill walking and caving sessions which is nice mix of activities.

Bushcraft & Canoeing
What’s not to like with an activity session that incorporates these two activities! Working with a Year 6 group canoeing at Simpsons Pool and then making a fire to toast marshmallows and make a hot chocolate. Always a fun activity irrespective of your age.

Caving at Ogof Llanymynech
Two different trips with a Year 4 and a Year 5 group. Both groups really enjoyed exploring the Ogof and the squeeze through and out of Five Ways Chamber. They even managed to work out who my caving mentor was after one of my stories.

Hill Walking at Earls Hill

Happy to be at the top

Happy to be at the top

Sometimes a day just clicks and this trip was one of those occasions. We traversed around the base of Earls Hill looking at the Flora and Fauna. We paused at the style and then made the short steep ascent to the summit to be greeted by  the wind. Despite this the group’s sense of achievement at getting to the top was awesome and their was much singing and dancing as we made our way to the woods for lunch and eventually the van at the car park.

The quote of the day has to be – ‘I’m loving this positivity’ from a one participant as they conquered their fear on the steep descent.

I have to admit that this day really lifted my spirits and I have been riding along on the crest of a wave ever since.
