CHMAS – DofE Training

CHMAS – DofE Expedition Training

As an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) for the DofE Expedition Section, CHMAS was once again providing a full expedition package for a local school in Shrewsbury. We had two glorious weekends in May where the different groups got stuck in various tasks.

Day 1  – School Based
This day is all about introducing the basic expedition skills and entails the following:

  • Expedition kit and packing a rucksack;
  • First Aid Training;
  • Emergency procedures;
  • Ready Steady Cook Competition (including safe stove use); and
  • Tent pitching.

These are always fun days to work and some of the meals for the Ready Steady Cook competition are simply awesome.

Day 2 – Long Mynd Walk
Walking with day bags we spent a day on the Longmynd looking at the fundamental navigational and group management skills required for the expedition. This is always a real eye opener for the participants and they realise just what they have signed up for. This year, the weather was incredibly sunny and I was really pleased by how well all the groups coped with the heat and the navigational challenges. I’m really looking forward to working with these teams in their practice and qualifying expeditions.

If you would like CHMAS to facilitate your expedition then please take a look at our DofE page to find out more.
