Last week was one of Arthog Outreach’s busiest weeks with over 500 people visiting us for an adventure and I was really pleased to be part of it. My week entailed my regular environmental sessions and canoeing at Simpsons Pool as part of a girl empowerment programme.
The topic for this term is the Anglo Saxons and for this session we looked at Anglo Saxon weaponry and had a go at making our own spears. We then used them to take part in a throwing competition (distance & accuracy). The young people had a thoroughly good time and are now very much looking forward to doing some Anglo Saxon cooking for their final session.
Canoeing at Simpsons Pool
Two very different sessions as part of a ‘girl empowerment’ programme but everyone had lots of fun, working together to unload / load the boats and then getting to grips with the fundamental canoe skills through instruction and by playing games. It never ceases to amaze me how much the young people work out when a creative game (stealth learning).
A nice week with hopefully, lots more to follow.
