This weekend CHMAS was provide a Bronze DofE Training weekend for a local school and a good time was had by all who attended. The training consisted of a school based day and then a navigation day on the Long Mynd.
School Based Day
The teams had input on expedition equipment and personal clothing, tent pitching and tent etiquette, a ready steady cook competition, input on how to deal with emergencies, first aid training and information on choosing an aim and how to present it.
The results of the ready steady cook completion were awesome and the teams prepared some of the best meals that I have seen for quite a while.
This was the teams first day on the hill and it didn’t take them long to get to grips with the fundamental navigational skills through the 5D’s approach. By the end of the walk, the group were responsible for the route choice, navigation and generally looking after the ‘old timers’.
