My week at Arthog Outreach consisted of Environmental Education Sessions, Canoeing and Team Building Sessions and it proved to be a mighty fine week too.
Environmental Education Sessions
This was the last week for this Year 3 group and they were particularly excited about learn how to track and set up a trail for others to follow. Well, I’m pleased to say that everyone proved to be quite good at tracking with all the animals being found.
Canoeing at Simpsons Pool
Quite a nervous group this week so I opted for a rafted canoe session and a lovely session it turned out to be too. We played lots of games in the morning to build up confidence before taking a well earned lunch. For the afternoon session, we built up canoe skills before a having a stand up paddling race to finish off the session. At the end of the session no one wanted to leave and they all wanted to do canoeing again. A job well done in my opinion.
Working with an SEN Group to improve their team working skills was the order of the day for Friday. To develop a spirit of adventure, trust and communication skills I opted for an indoor climbing session to kick off the session and this turned out to be very successful indeed with lots of enthusiasm and encouragement demonstrated throughout the session.
To build on this we played a few team challenges (hoop challenge, marble run & swamp crossing), before finishing the session off with a fire challenge and toasting marshmallows. The review around the fire was quite enlightening and hopefully, they will take away them with lots of fond memories of their time at Arthog Outreach.
